V angličtině se běžně pro příbor užije termín knife and fork naɪf ənd foːk (tedy nůž a vidlička). Např.: How to use a knife and fork - Jak používat příbor. Můžete se setkat i se slovem cutlery ˈkʌtlərɪ, ale ten obvykle znamená příbory souhrnně.

Pub je hlavně britská hospoda. V USA narazíte spíše na bar bɑː případně saloon səˈluːn, kde se pivo točí do menších sklenic (cca 2-3 dl). Na stůl můžete běžně dostat pivo ve skleněném džbánu - pitcher ˈpɪtʃə (cca 1,5-2l), z kterého si sami naléváte.

Vyberte správné slovo podle výkladu.

Termín junk food lze volně česky přeložit jako “nezdravá strava”, ale jde hlavně o kalorická jídla s vysokým obsahem tuku a cukrů a nízkou nutriční hodnotou, typicky průmyslově zpracovaná, jako jsou brambůrky, sladkosti, smažené pokrmy z fastfoodových restaurací ap. Junk totiž znamená haraburdí či přeneseně odpad.

Utvořte ze slov nereálné přítomné podmínky - Second conditional.

Všimněte si, že would rather se užívá, vyjadřuje-li někdo svoji osobní preferenci. Naopak had better je spíše vyjádření obecného doporučení, co by měl někdo raději udělat vzhledem k okolnostem. Je tedy významově blízké užití anglického should.

Calm down - (uklidnit) je oddělitelné frázové sloveso - separable phrasal verb. Tato slovesa se vyznačují tím, že se přímý předmět (zájmeno) ve větě vkládá mezi sloveso a předložkovou částici tvořící frázové sloveso. Např.: Try to CALM him DOWN. - Pokus se ho uklidnit. ap. Ačkoli food, meal i dish lze česky přeložit jako jídlo, není to totéž! Food jsou potraviny obecně (cokoli, co lze jíst). Meal je událost (přijímání potravy) i přijímané pokrmy. Dish je pak jeden konkrétní podávaný pokrm. Např. Supper is an evening meal., ale My favourite dish is pizza. - “Mé oblíbené jídlo je pizza.”

Lunch lʌntʃ - oběd, bývá spíše lehčí jídlo (v práci ap.). Hlavní jídlo dne v anglicky mluvících zemích je dinner ˈdɪnə - nejčastěji odpoledne (po práci ap.). Pro nás to tedy může být brzká večeře. Pozdní či druhé večeři se pak říká supper ˈsʌpə.
